  The Cyclist- Tim Sullivan- Crime This is the second in the DS Cross books but happily stands alone. There has been a body found when demolishing some buildings, a body wrapped in plastic. It turns out to be that of a young man who was very keen on cycling and should have been going abroad for a race when a strange text was sent from his phone. It turns out his life was slightly more complex than first thought which leads the team through a few dead ends and the reader through twists and turns. A very interesting plot line, and one very cleverly thought out. For anyone not having come across George Cross before- he is a wonderful character with a tendency to intricate detail and not for social niceties. He is fortunate in having an understanding partner of DS Ottey who is doing her best not only with him to get another partner.   The Murder List by Jackie Kabler -psychological thriller  Mary is a crime writer, freelance and rents office space with some other self employed people. Her father who tragically died in a fire where Mary survived was a famous crime novelist. Amongst her Christmas gifts is a diary, which she assumes is from one of the publishers she works for. She doesn't open it until january as she doesnt use a paper diary, and finds some chilling entries- “ murder Lisa Oxford 1st Jan” and 3 others on different dates. The first date has already passed and a woman named Lisa has been found dead. She takes her finding to the police and she decides to do a little investigative work for herself. A crime piece that has fallen into her hands and not least of all as she may be the last name on the list. I quickly got into this and felt for Mary’s predicament. It's a well written read which soon envelopes you between the pages and I found myself ever more intrigued. A very clever plot and a twist ...

  The Spider by Stewart Giles- Crime The Spider- a parkour athlete like no other, flitting in and out and murdering quickly and quietly. Murdering those who are victims- hard done to by their partners. Jason Smith has little to go on other than that the man has been seen climbing like his arachnoid namesake. What is he achieving and why? Wow! Yet another brilliant concept from Stewart that kept me in its web (!) right the way through. Its tense, its spellbinding and tantalising. There is a domestic thread to Smith which gives a nice contrast from his work life with drama of its own. I love Stewart's characters- they are ones you can't help but like, and Smith is one that says it as it is, no messing!
