Jenny Sparrow has some time to kill. Not literally as she solves murders rather than does
them and they have a habit of following her around. She has a full time job in a school
but not being one for holidays and being told she must take time off she finds herself a
temporary job for a couple of days. Being a cook this isn’t difficult and she soon finds
one on board a riverboat, something totally different and may even give her a small
break of her own. She has been employed by a business man to provide meals over
the two days for a small group of his friends. Friends who it appears have other
things on their minds. One has been trying to buy the boat but the owner has
persistently said no. Another “keeps” a lover in a flat in London unknown to her
husband. When one of the guests is found murdered, of course by Jenny, she
again assists the police as she has a head start having known the guests albeit
for a few hours. Jenny is one of those characters that you quickly warm to.
Not an out and out sleuth just a woman with a talent for listening and putting
things together in her own way. If you enjoy Agatha Christie or Death in Paradise
then this could be the series for you. A captive group of people all wanting the
same thing yet nothing obvious and everyone where they should be.

Faith Martin was born in Oxford, and has spent all her life within twenty miles of the university city, even working at Somerville College for five years before turning to writing full-time.
