Distorted Days by Louise Worthington Literary fiction
“If she could speak to them, she would say they have exploded her heart, released

firecrackers through her senses. She wishes she could call the police, the
ambulance, the fire brigade, to arrest and anaesthetise and waterboard the bastards.”
Doris now lives by herself after her husband had an affair and left her to it. The house is his
and the estate agent has just called to put it on the market leaving Doris in rather a pickle to
say the very least. Doris steadily sips to get through the difficult times in life and sometimes
just life in general . She and her friends take us through a whirlwind of distorted days.
This is very differently written. Rather staccato in parts which does give it that whirlwind
distorted feeling that the world is somehow getting away from you and then doing
one’s best to snatch it back. Tales of life getting people down and then picking
themselves back up again, something we have all been through in different degrees.
Attitude being one of the big factors in how quickly we react, different characters
having different attitudes. I liked “the jenga style coffee tables made from books”
and Colleen and the dog in the library. Of life’s ups and downs and curveballs.
A different look on life with a smile,.

Distorted Days If she could speak to them, she would say they have exploded her heart, released firecrackers
through her senses. She wishes she could call the police, the ambulance, the fire brigade,
to arrest and anaesthetise and waterboard the bastards. So what happens when your husband runs off with your best friend? When you discover
the dead body of an old man halfway through your delivery round? When your house is
burgled and you get beaten up? Doris, Andy and Colleen are about to find out. They’re
also about to discover that you can find friendship and support in the oddest of places… Heart-rending, humorous and above all authentic, Distorted Days is an exquisitely written
account of the ways in which life can knock you off our feet – and how you can pick
yourself up again. If you’ve experienced the fickleness of fortune, this is a book that you’ll
never forget.
