The Dark Room by Sam Blake- crime/Psychological Thriller

Caroline is a reporter for a New York paper. She has been suspended pending

an investigation that to her holds no water at all. As she has a few weeks off

she decides to go “home”. Home is Ireland and she heads to Hare’s landing

having heard good things about it. It is winter and there are few guests as the

hotel isn't fully open but they have given her a discount and she has rented

the boathouse so that she can be more independent. Rachel lives with Hunter

and their dog Jasper on a houseboat in London. One day Hunter is knocked

off his bike and badly injured. At the same time their boat is broken into

and Hunters work things are stolen. He works in tv and was filming about

the homeless and wonders if he could have inadvertently filmed something

someone would rather not reveal.  Rachel does a little digging and the

person he was filming -Alfie Bows mentioned Hare’s landing so rather

than feel unsafe on the boat whilst Hunter recovers, Rachel takes herself

off to find out more along with Jasper for company. What is the link

between Alfie and Hare’s landing if any and why Hunter and the break in.

I enjoyed this, there is a wonderful sense of camaraderie between Rachel

and Caroline as they strike up their friendship and try to find out more.

I also loved that Jasper had a key role and loved his antics which

provided a little light relief along the way.  This is brilliantly written and

scenes beautifully described so that you can picture the scenarios easily.

The tension is cleverly drawn out with twists and turns along the way.

A read that draws you in and keeps you there till the very end. 5*
