The Hunting Ground- Will Shindler

The Hunting Ground- Will Shindler- Crime

A young woman is found brutally murdered and her young son has disappeared. She was working as a cocktail waitress the night she was killed and stories are emerging that it was rather a sexist raucous event- one from which she left early due to this so it appears. The odd thing is that many years ago another young woman also having a young son was murdered at the same property. Is there such a thing as coincidence? DI Alex Finn has his own demons- he lost his wife and his mind keeps taking him back to when they were together. He needs to move on for the sake of his mental health and also move forward on the case.

I loved this. It's a fast paced read with lots of twists and turns. Things go in one direction and then a curveball, which keeps things moving and the pages easily turning. I took to Alex and his predicament, deep down he knew what was the right thing to do (I won’t spoil anything) and his tenacity with the case is relatable. A very cleverly thought out plot, brilliantly written. I very much look forward to the next one from Will Shindler, everyone is a stunner of a read.

THE THIRD NOVEL FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BURNING MEN AND THE KILLING CHOICE, FEATURING DI ALEX FIN AND DC MATTIE PAULSEN

Sadie Nicholls has been found dead, brutally and strangely murdered, in her South East London flat. Her little boy is missing.

DI Alex Finn and DC Mattie Paulsen know that, in the case of a missing child, it's the first 24 hours that count. They don't have many left to find out where Sadie's son might be and the identity of her killer. Why would anyone want a struggling single mother, loved by many, dead?

But when they realise a similar crime was committed at the same house nearly 20 years ago, a question is on everyone's lips: is this more than just a coincidence?

This is third in Will Shindler's Finn and Paulsen series - a British detective series that ranks with Mark Billingham, M.J. Arlidge and Stuart MacBride.
