Sun Damage
Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant-psychological thriller
Somewhere hot and relaxing sets the scene for a swindle or two. Most of us have seen the Michael Caine film of this topic set on the riviera (Dirty rotten Scoundrels) and this book follows the theme. Ali and Sean have met up and the latest mark is Lulu. When something happens that is not to Ali's liking she takes off with not only Seans money but also takes on Lulu identity as she knows she has a job to go to being a chef at a holiday villa and she looks enough like her to pass it off and get aways from Sean. At the villa there are nine guests who all know each other one way or another, but all have secrets. Ali soon becomes the rock, the confidant so that more and more of the guests are trusting her.
Oh wow! This is another stunner of a read from Sabine. It cleverly draws the reader in feeling comfortable getting to know Ali and a few minor misdemeanours until it ramps up big time. You can't help but like Ali and strangely find yourself not wanting her to be found out- to me the skill of a stunning author who can gauge the tension just right. The pages turned ever faster and time slipped away- so enthralled was I wanting to know what happened. A brilliantly entertaining read with several twists to keep the reader guessing right to the very end.
