The Sleepover

The Sleepover by Keri Beevis

When Hannah and Rosie were young, they and their friends befriended Mrs W-Eileen Wickham who invited them to her farmhouse and to play on her land. One day Hannah saw something whilst looking for Mrs W and fled, not daring to mention it. Twenty years later and Mrs W has just come out of prison. Both Hannah and Rosie are getting messages which only Mrs W would know about. Liam is a true crime writer and wants to help but the girls are fed up with intrusive journalists but it appears that there is a score to be settled from the past and Liam can help protect the girls.

OMG! One of those reads where you don’t quite know all of the past (we get it slowly through the book- cleverly thought out and perfectly done) which beautifully creates a tension through the pages. Keri is a master of this engaging and holding the reader to keep the pages turning. Tank is wonderful and provides the occasional lighthearted moment. Love him! A story to keep the reader engaged right to the very end with a twist or two along the way. A wonderful, thrilling read.

The Sleepover

When you’re a kid, you imagine monsters to have horns and fangs. That they hide under the bed or in the wardrobe. And you believe they can only come after you when it’s dark. You don’t expect them to look like everyday people or that they may be someone you already know… The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us. But that was before her… Before we became known as the Hixton Six and our lives become defined by one night. It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away. But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen. When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real. Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.
