The Bluesman

The Bluesman by Stewart Giles -Crime

Stewart has done it again- a book I start and don’t want to put down….

DS Jason Smith is being questioned about his actions in the Scarecrow case- a case that no-one can forget. He is off on advised leave when he gets a call from a friend of an old friend to say he has disappeared- something he would never do and no-one can get in touch with him. Meanwhile the team have been called out to a man acting very irrationally and soon find a bloodbath in his house- his wife and children have been killed. Could the man be acting irrationally because of this? It soon appears that there may be a link between his and Smith's missing friend- someone called the Bluesman who lends money and if re-payments are not forthcoming takes payment in fear. Who is this so-called Bluesman and why on earth would they do such a thing?

Despite the potentially gruesome scenes. Stewart as ever takes his readers on a thoughtful journey. Yes there is the odd sentence of what has been done but nothing too much, most being left to the reader's imagination- to me the show of a skillfully, carefully thought out read by a virtuoso author. There’s a wonderful, slightly uneasy feeling which keeps the pages turning so easily as the two stories intertwine and as ever Smith gets into the thick of things. There’s the softer side with Whitton and Smith's family and banter from the team to lighten the mood - heaven knows they need it! (lol!). I found myself thinking over and over “just one more chapter, just one” hmm…. two hours later…… A truly brilliant read. My only complaint…. I didn't want it to end!

Stewart Giles – Author Bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live.

In 2014 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later.

3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series - the DC Harriet Taylor: Cornwall series.

The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well.

I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the shelves in 2018 with amazing results.  I therefore made the decision to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet Taylor series which was published in July 2018.

After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The Enigma was born. It brought together the broody, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor.

The Miranda trilogy is something totally different. A psychological thriller trilogy. It is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before.

The Detective Jason Smith series continues to grow. I also have another series featuring an Irish detective who relocated to Guernsey. The first 8 books in the Detective Liam O’Reilly series are now available. There are also 3 stand alone novels.
