Death of a Wild Swimmer by Peter Boland -crime

A man is found dead on the beach and the police think it's an accidental death- a swimmer who got into trouble and hit his head. The woman who leads the wild swimming club he was part of isn't convinced and asks the ladies of the charity shop detective agency to do some investigating. They don’t have to be asked twice! One of them decides to do some wild swimming herself, both to find out more and to see if it will help get rid of “it”, something she calls her depression. 

This is the fifth book in this series and I’ve loved them all- they do happily stand alone. The prologue is clever, I won’t spoil it, it made me smile as do the ladies from the Dogs need nice homes charity shop. They are all figures the reader can easily imagine or maybe even know or have met at some time. They have hearts of gold and will do their very best to help. A wonderfully entertaining read that had me engrossed. Loved it.

Peter’s Bio After studying to be an architect, Pete realised he wasn't very good at it. He liked designing buildings he just couldn't make them stand up, which is a bit of a handicap in an industry that likes to keep things upright. So he switched to advertising, writing ads for everything from cruise lines to zombie video games. After becoming disillusioned with working in ad agencies, he switched to writing thriller novels (or was it because he just wanted to work at home in his pyjamas?). He soon realised there's no magic formula. You just have to put one word in front of the other (and keep doing that for about a year).   More Life as a Dog by LA Davenport- memoirs/humour This is the second in the series (both happily stand alone) about Kevin the dachshund, the “meat seeking missile” and his adventures with his human. Human has a new girlfriend and it’s a nervous time when Kevin is taken to be introduced to her dog. Will he behave or let them both down? This is written in the first person from the humans point of view and tells of outings they have such as a trip back to London after a day out,  but turned into an adventure due to running out of petrol. From meeting Amy Winehouse to poor Kevin being kicked there are the highs and lows of their lives. This is a fun,  light hearted read especially for any dog lover.  Although told from the human perspective, it's told with Kevin at the heart of things. She is a no nonsense, no filter type sergeant who dives in and doesn't let go.
