Oh wow! A book I devoured and loved right the way through. Way back in the day, thirty years ago, three women met up in Hong Kong when they were working as entertainers at a hotel. Moira is now working at her stage school and has a son who is a famous actor. Carina is married to a wealthy businessman but when she finds out he has been having an affair she takes up Moira’s invitation to go to Hong Kong rather than celebrate her anniversary. When the two ladies get there, they look forward to meeting up with Lisa and catching up on the last thirty years of their lives. Occasional chapters take us back in time to glimpse of their lives. Can they rekindle the friendships or has too much changed, and the secrets they held back then remain intact?

This is a wonderful premise and as with all of Shari’s books the characters are wonderful and almost step out of the pages. The ladies are a mix of good hearted, caring and fun loving whilst now having that life experience that makes them see their old lives in a completely different light whilst still having that sense of fun. It’s of love and loss, friendship and heartache, the ups and downs of life we all go through one way and another. A treasure of a read, one fabulous book.

  A Random Kill by Andrew Barrett - Crime This is a new series from Andy and only a couple of chapters in and I'm  already hooked on Regan. She is a no nonsense, no filter type sergeant who dives in and doesn't let go. For anyone who knows Andy’s work will know of Eddie (who makes the occasional appearance in this), Regan could well be his sister from another mother, ‘nuff said. Oh boy, was I looking forward to diving into this one.  A woman has been found shot dead. Her son is missing who was with her in his pushchair. Her partner at first appears clean but is soon found to be lurking in the criminal shadows of a potential OCG.  Regan has been moved to MCU. She hates dead bodies and doesn't know why the move came about- until she clocks it- her ex, a DCI arranged it purposefully. Andorra Pett and the Oort Cloud- Cafe- Richard Dee-  4* Andi has landed on a mining station a week away from Mars. She takes on the “ucky strike cafe” (the “L” fell off) - its previous owner having disappeared leaving outstanding debts. Her business partner Cy is right behind her. Much to her surprise they find the previous guy in the freezer - in a body bag. Being on a different planet means there are rules about refuse and hence they decide to leave him there having little choice in the matter. Andi wants to find out more about a secret book that he had and who murdered him. This is a wonderful, lighthearted read to make you smile. Characters that are well portrayed and you take to easily. Descriptions are vivid and you can easily picture “the planet” in your minds eye. An excellent plot line with a little humour and even romance along the way. A highly enjoyable read.
