Smith is off work taking time owed to pursue his dream of being in a band only its not going too well. Meanwhile the rest of the team are dealing with the death of a law student who it appears has been strangled but has a strange moniker on her stomach. When there is another death and Smith finds out who the law professor is, he decides to come back to work. Who is doing this and why?

Yet another read from Stewart where within the first few pages I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. It's clever and well calculated (as ever) and knowing Stewart's collection of guitars I wonder if there is a tad of him in Smith? It's a fab plot and written with a little suitable humour in all the right places, Smith being well… Smith! Stunning, brilliant, clever.. Need I say more other than a huge 5*?

Stewart Giles – Author Bio


After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them,

I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in

South Africa, where we still live. 

In 2014 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up

with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith,

the first in the series was finished a few months later. 

3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be

interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed.

However, we decided on a new series - the DC Harriet Taylor:

Cornwall series.

The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in

Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. 

I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the

shelves in 2018 with amazing results.  I therefore made the decision

to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet

Taylor series which was published in July 2018.

After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series

– a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The

Enigma was born. It brought together the broody, enigmatic Jason

Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor. 

The Miranda trilogy is something totally different. A psychological

thriller trilogy. It is a real departure from anything else I’ve

written before. 

The Detective Jason Smith series continues to grow. I also have

another series featuring an Irish detective who relocated to

Guernsey, the Detective Liam O’Reilly series. There are also

3 stand alone novels.

  A Random Kill by Andrew Barrett - Crime This is a new series from Andy and only a couple of chapters in and I'm  already hooked on Regan. She is a no nonsense, no filter type sergeant who dives in and doesn't let go. For anyone who knows Andy’s work will know of Eddie (who makes the occasional appearance in this), Regan could well be his sister from another mother, ‘nuff said. Oh boy, was I looking forward to diving into this one.  A woman has been found shot dead. Her son is missing who was with her in his pushchair. Her partner at first appears clean but is soon found to be lurking in the criminal shadows of a potential OCG.  Regan has been moved to MCU. She hates dead bodies and doesn't know why the move came about- until she clocks it- her ex, a DCI arranged it purposefully. Andorra Pett and the Oort Cloud- Cafe- Richard Dee-  4* Andi has landed on a mining station a week away from Mars. She takes on the “ucky strike cafe” (the “L” fell off) - its previous owner having disappeared leaving outstanding debts. Her business partner Cy is right behind her. Much to her surprise they find the previous guy in the freezer - in a body bag. Being on a different planet means there are rules about refuse and hence they decide to leave him there having little choice in the matter. Andi wants to find out more about a secret book that he had and who murdered him. This is a wonderful, lighthearted read to make you smile. Characters that are well portrayed and you take to easily. Descriptions are vivid and you can easily picture “the planet” in your minds eye. An excellent plot line with a little humour and even romance along the way. A highly enjoyable read.
