The Castle of Stories by Matt Cain

Oh be still my beating heart. A tale of love and finding yourself in whatever "family" shape that may take. I'm one of the straight women who love this book ( a group that Matt's previous publishers thought wouldn't like his books- and I've loved each and every one). Many of us have had adversity in one form or another in our lives, some in greater ways than normal and this book tackles this in several different formats. I smiled and yes I cried (at the end). Of finding the real you and the ones that love you for it. Overcoming prejudices and being true to yourself. Five stars really isn't enough. An uplifting read I highly recommend. A great big hug in a book.

It's gritty and brilliantly crafted and I didn't quite know what was likely to come next- just how I like it.   Will you Stay Another Day? by Samantha Tonge- women’s fiction Lili and Em were best buddies, the sort who know each other inside out and pretty much have their own language. One year after Em has tragically died Lili texts Em’s old number…………and gets a reply in Em “speak”- something only they would know. Is someone playing a cruel joke or is Em…?? Lili dare not think about what she truly hopes is real. Who is sending the texts and why? Wow! What a brilliant premise. Most of us have sadly lost someone dear and would love to be able to get a message to them, and even better to get one back- how truly special that would be. (I’ve got more than one in mind!).  Samantha knows how to draw a reader in and keep them there with her brilliant style of writing. I laughed and yes, I cried.   Murder under the Sun by Faith Martin - Crime This is one in a series but happily stands alone (book #22 in the Hillary Greene series) Hillary works with a cold case unit. She is a retired DI but couldn't stay away and her clean up score was second to none so going back over old cases and finding new leads is natural to her. Fifteen years ago a woman, a former model, was found dead at her home by her daughter, then aged seventeen. It transpired she was having an affair but despite several leads at the time, the police couldn't pin the crime on anyone. Hilary's team is now tasked with solving the case. I adore this series. There’s always a stunning plot and the odd light-hearted moment. Puff the tragic wagon makes a few appearances  which I smile at every time. Hillary is a very likeable, determined character who has the knack of seeing things in people others can’t. It's clever , twisty, intriguing  and a wonderful ending.
