The Cleaner by Mary Watson- mystery thriller

Esmie has arrived in Ireland to find out more about what really happened to her brother Nico who is currently at home in a coma. She inveigles herself as a cleaner for three houses who are related in one way or another by orchestrating an accident. Once in the houses she watches the occupants and finds a few things which may or may not relate to Nico. She hides her relationship to him from all of the occupants and does her best to make herself indispensable so that she can watch even more of the happenings. 

This is a cleverly written and very well thought out book. I'm smiling writing this as there’s a certain something between the pages that kept me turning without really knowing why if that makes sense? A spellbinding quality about it and perhaps unease of someone being deceptive and creeping around, investigating drawers and laptops and more in a world where she is almost invisible being “ just” the cleaner. I understand that this is a debut adult book from the author- wow! What a beginning! Outstanding, dark, clever. A very solid 4*

She takes on the “ucky strike cafe” (the “L” fell off) - its previous owner having disappeared leaving outstanding debts. Her business partner Cy is right behind her.   More Life as a Dog by LA Davenport- memoirs/humour This is the second in the series (both happily stand alone) about Kevin the dachshund, the “meat seeking missile” and his adventures with his human. Human has a new girlfriend and it’s a nervous time when Kevin is taken to be introduced to her dog. Will he behave or let them both down? This is written in the first person from the humans point of view and tells of outings they have such as a trip back to London after a day out,  but turned into an adventure due to running out of petrol. From meeting Amy Winehouse to poor Kevin being kicked there are the highs and lows of their lives. This is a fun,  light hearted read especially for any dog lover.  Although told from the human perspective, it's told with Kevin at the heart of things.   A Random Kill by Andrew Barrett - Crime This is a new series from Andy and only a couple of chapters in and I'm  already hooked on Regan. She is a no nonsense, no filter type sergeant who dives in and doesn't let go. For anyone who knows Andy’s work will know of Eddie (who makes the occasional appearance in this), Regan could well be his sister from another mother, ‘nuff said. Oh boy, was I looking forward to diving into this one.  A woman has been found shot dead. Her son is missing who was with her in his pushchair.
