Truth be told- Paul Teague-  Crime
An evil man. A quest for revenge. A woman who will do anything to save her
family. A truth that must be told …”
After the knife edge finish of the last book, we are back in Morecambe, both now
and in the past. Will and Charlotte’s daughter Lucia is still missing and Charlotte and
their son are now in hospital. Will is on the hunt for one of the copies of the video
that could incriminate some and put others in the clear. We alternate between the
mid eighties, early 200o’s and today. Years before hand someone went missing and
was killed. Now his whereabouts is only known by four people. Others wonder if he
provides a missing link to a circle of businessmen from the eighties and the video.
This is a tense read. Charlotte yet again is the intrepid detective and protector
however this time she does have the police on side, well sort of. I have really
enjoyed this series- something to get your teeth stuck into so to speak. This is the
third book in the Morecambe Bay trilogy and does not stand alone- why not read
the series? Book one is Left for Dead, book two is Circle of lies. All three have
earnt 5 * from me. Three gripping reads that I wanted to turn faster and faster to
find out what happened. A well thought out clever plot and stunning reads.
Brilliant.

Closer To You- Adam Croft-psychological thriller
"What if your loved one wanted you dead?"
Sit down  and hold on for the ride! Grace lives on her own having split from her
fiance a while ago. She works as an event organiser and has just met Tom through
an online dating app. Her best friend Cath is deep in the throes of arranging her
wedding and it is Grace who is actually doing most of it, being such a good
organiser. Cath and Tom don’t hit it off, both seemingly being protective of Grace
in their own way. Someone wants the butterfly for themselves and knows what
Cath is really like. they won’t let her stand in their way of having Grace all to
themselves. Ooooh!!! I devoured this in a few hours- I couldn’t put it down. I
took to Grace and her situation and then the tension grew. OMG. I was on the
edge of my seat. Adam has a talent - one that through such brilliant writing puts
you on the edge of your seat and keeps you there. that slightly unsettled
feeling that you can;t shake off until you know what has happened.
A clever well thought out premise and and you can see- the sort of book I so
love to read. Brilliant doesn’t cover it.

Guess Who by [Clerge, Nesly, Shafer, Joyce]

Guess- who- Nesly Clerge &.Joyce L Shafer -Crime
“When the phone rings at dark-thirty with more bad news, all four of your tires are as
flat as your love life, and your hair explodes when you step outside, do not ask that
“What else?” question”
Tessa Dupuis was brought up by her uncle who ran a bank. He died a short while ago
and left her his house and some money. There have been a series of robberies in the
banks in the area which are rather odd. A character, as in fancy dress, appears at the
security camera and waves, leaves a card with two words on in the vault and leaves
empty handed. On seeing an old New York times Tessa discovers that similar
robberies are happening there. She gets a friend to contact one of the detectives and
decides to present herself to help. Detective Walker has better things to do with his
time however he is being hassled to find out what is going on. Meanwhile someone
else is after Tessa. It should have been her uncle but as he is already dead she is the next
best thing when revenge needs to be served. I really enjoyed this. It’s a crime book
with a smile where the main character isn’t the detective or a private eye. It has that
something different, that something special. Done with humour and a little tongue in
cheek. A wonderful entertaining read.

Hillary’s back- Faith Martin-  Crime
Hillary is back at the wheel of the cold case unit and at the helm of the Mollern,
her longboat “house”. There is a new employee Gareth in the team who was
disabled in his time in the army and the other team member is Clare who used to
be a sergeant.  This time the case is of a suspected (but never convicted) drug dealer
who was found in the woods near his home, stabbed by his own penknife. No-one
was particularly bothered about his passing when the case was first opened and
hence not bothered about whom the perpetrator could have been. A case of
“good riddance to bad rubbish”. Now a few years have passed the case has been
passed to Hillary and the team hoping that they can find out more. I love these
books- they are so easy to read and entertaining. Very often a subplot going on
and characters you can warm to. Hillary is a wonderful lead and you wouldn’t
hesitate to want her on your side. A strong determined lady with a caring
heart and the tenacity of a rottweiler with a bone! A captivating plot to keep
the grey matter active(which I always like) and a brilliantly written
entertaining read. Keep ‘em coming!

ONE OF THE WORLD’S FAVOURITE DETECTIVES RETURNS.

DETECTIVE HILLARY GREENE IS BACK!

Eighteen months after Hillary suffered a personal tragedy, she is throwing herself into her work to try to get over it.

Former soldier Gareth Proctor joins her team and finds himself quickly growing to enjoy his new environment.

The first cold case he works on is the murder of Andrew Feeley.

In 2012, this twenty-one-year-old was found dead in the woods near his home, killed by a single stab wound to the chest from his own knife.

Given Andrew’s criminal background, his murder is thought to be drug-related.

The Holdout - Graham Moore - Mystery/ Crime
“The real killer could be any of the other ten jurors. Is Maya being forced to pay
the price for her decision all those years ago?”
Ten years ago Maya and Rick were part of  jury who found Bobby Nock innocent of the
murder of Jessica Silver. Jessica was the daughter of a wealthy statesman and she
was never seen again- a body was never found. Maya famously changed the whole
jury from 11-1 guilty when they started to a non guilty verdict. She went on to become
a successful defence lawyer. For the ten year anniversary a TV show wants to get
together the remaining jury members. Maya isn’t sure about this at all but her
company wants her to go and support her.. Rick says he has new evidence to show
that they were all wrong- Bobby did kill Jessica after all. When one of the jurors is
then found dead- could it be one of the others? Is Maya safe or is she about to pay
the price for speaking out all those years ago? Oooh!!! This gripped me early on
. chapters flip between what went on at the trial and now and are easy to follow.
I quickly liked Maya as she fought for what she believed in and wasn’t a push over
just to get a quick verdict. A jury story with a difference- a real difference!
A brilliantly written thrilling read that kept me in its grip to the very last page

New Beginnings at Wynter House by Emily Harvale-Romcom
“The New Year brings unexpected revelations at Wynter House”
Everyone is still gathered at Wynter house as it is Boxing day.The houses in the village
were flooded and many have moved into the big house until the water recedes. Neve
has been invited by the love of her life Rafe who now owns the house. His
grandmother Olivia doesn’t believe that Rafe seeing a hairdresser is good for their
reputation which has suffered one way and another in latter years. Rafe and his
brother Adam challenge Olivia about someone they saw in town. Trying to get the
truth out of her is rather like pulling teeth! Rafe wants to get his new Gin distillery off
the ground and has invited Amelia to do the marketing however it appears that
Amelia has her eye on more than just the gin. She would however stack up in
Olivia’s eyes. This is a wonderful easy read with a smile. I like Neve and her
determination. Her feet are firmly planted on the ground and little phases her.
An uplifting read to enjoy over a coffee or two.

Wynter House. It also brings Hazel Smart and Amelia Goodbody. And it’s not just Adam and Rafe Wynter
who are pleased Hazel and Amelia have come to stay. Olivia Wynter will enjoy bossing
nurse Hazel around and she also makes it clear Amelia – who is handling the marketing
for Rafe’s new business venture – is far more suited to be her grandson’s girlfriend than
Neva will ever be. Whilst Amelia is ensconced at Wynter House, Neva is busy with her new hair and beauty
salon in Merriment Bay. Perhaps she should enlist her niece, Sasha’s help because just
when she thought she had found the love of her life, old secrets, ghosts from the past,
and new arrivals might shatter all her dreams. At least she has her best friend, Jo Duncan to lean on. But newly single, Jo is
determined to have some fun, both at Wynter House and in Merriment Bay. And so
is Adam Wynter. This is book two in the Wyntersleap series but it can be read as a standalone. The

Four minutes to Save a Life-Anna Stuart-
review and piece by Anna Stuart about how she came to be Anna
Oh my! One truly stunning read I will remember for a very long time. Anna Stuart has
a talent. I’m only a few pages in as I first write this and already feel enveloped by a
friend. A warmth of writing and characters I’m already taking to. Charlie has just
started a new job. He is a delivery driver for a supermarket. On his first day, he
receives his list of customers and decides that fate has taken a hand. There is a
name on there that he needs to make amends with for something that has happened
in the past. Various chapters are new deliveries to each of three characters. Each
delivery house has its own story. Charlie is allowed four minutes for each one-
long enough for the personal touch and not too long to be inefficient. Clever.
Charlie wants to put things right and he begins just doing the little things that seem
so obvious to him. At the yard however there is a bully and one who has his sights
set on Charlie and has found out his past. I can’t express how much I loved this
(but I’ll try!) I really didn’t want it to end. I loved Charlie and his big yet nervous
heart. Ruth and her mending. Vik and his curries and of course Greg and his talent
with words. anna I salute you. I laughed and yes I cried (a lot). It took me to places
I had long forgotten and they were happy tears - thank you. If you read just one
book to restore your faith in human nature then this would be the one for me.
I award 5** to books that have gone that extra mile- around 10% of the 240 I
read a year make the grade. This one deserves 10*.

How Anna Stuart came into being The writer, Anna Stuart, was born in a rather unusual way. She was sort of always there,
waiting to happen, because as the holder of the pen – real name Joanna Barnden – I’d
wanted to be a writer since I was a very little girl. However, I secured a publishing deal
under the Anna alias in a rather roundabout fashion. As I said, I’d always wanted to write. I was a huge Enid Blyton fan and had written my
own boarding school novel around a heroine called Daisy by the age of ten. I loved
English Literature and ended up reading it at Cambridge but was well aware that,
except for a talented few, being a writer wasn’t a ‘proper job’, and certainly not a
lucrative one. I therefore opted for factory management instead!! Not an obvious
alternative, I’ll admit, but I loved it. I learned loads, made a lot of friends and even
found a husband, so it turned out to be a good job all round but the writing bug still
nibbled away at me. When I stopped work to have kids, therefore, I picked up a pen
and went for it.
I’d like to say I was an instant success but inevitably I wasn’t. What I did do, however,
was to slowly build up a portfolio writing for the women’s magazines whilst also trying
to write that bestselling novel. Eventually, several years down the line, I secured my
lovely agent, Kate Shaw, for a women’s fiction novel and thought I’d cracked it. I was
wrong. This was the mid-2000s and ‘chick lit’, as we called it then, wasn’t doing very well.
We failed to sell that novel and I decided to switch to writing historical fiction.
Perhaps insanely, I opted for 1066 as my year of choice but it paid off as a couple
of years later Kate sold a trilogy, The Queens of the Conquest, to PanMacmillan and
things started to look up. The novels were published under the name Joanna Courtney
(my first and middle names) and for the next three years I was immersed – as half of
me still is - in the medieval world.
Imagine my surprise, then, when, one sunny summer afternoon two years ago whilst
I was happily writing ancient history in the garden, Kate called me. She said she knew
a great editor, Sam Eades at Trapeze, who was looking for someone to pick up on an
idea she’d had for a contemporary novel. The idea was based around a heart-breaking
letter in the New York Times by a dying woman advertising for a new wife for her
husband when she was gone. Kate thought I’d be the perfect person for it; I thought
she was mad! I promised to think about it though – because who turns down such an opportunity?
– and the characters of Bonnie and Stan came to me almost immediately. I went back
to Kate a week later with a synopsis and she went back to Sam and within just two
more weeks I was sat in the Trapeze offices staring at a two-book contract. It was
one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. Having battled for years and years
to find a publisher, I seemed almost to have been handed one overnight. We all agreed that it would be very misleading to readers to write contemporary
fiction under the same name as medieval tales and so I needed a second alias.
As my real name is Joanna and I’ve spent my life as Jo, it seemed like it would be
fun to try the other half and become Anna. As for the surname – that’s my
husband’s name. Let’s just hope I stay in love with him!! And so, before another week was up, I had a second alter ego and Anna Stuart
was born. It was, indeed, an unusual nativity but a fantastic one for me. I love
writing as Anna and hope she’s around for a very long time…

Hidden on the Fens-Joy Ellis  Crime
DI Nikki Galena is back! This time the wife of one of the sergeants has been called
in to a neighbouring farm to advise on environmental issues. The discovery of footprints
on an unknown track leads to more than one amazing discovery. The farm owners wife
is receiving “gifts” relating to her interest in all things Wiccan. A young woman from the
village has gone missing who strikes more than a passing resemblance to a girl killed many
years ago in the area and a woman has finally come forward to give evidence on a man
who has escaped justice for preying on older women. This is book eleven in the series
and would probably stand alone- then again why miss out on the rest of the wonderful
series? I really enjoy Joy’s style or writing. The plots are enticing and keep the grey matter
active whilst being a comfortable read. Characters who stand out for all the right (or wrong!)
reasons and a little humour here and there. For me the key to these books is the personality
which shines through and characters have more to them than “just” the plot line. Wow!  A
tangle of plots intricately and very cleverly weaved yet easy to follow. Stunning really doesn’t
do this one justice- but of course justice gets served. Love this series and very much look
forward to the next one. Please keep them coming! Thank you Joy- for a wonderful read
but also for this quote- it means more than you can imagine. “ If justice is denied, let
the law of Karma take the ride, nothing in this world is done without a price” (anon).

JOY ELLIS – Author Bio UK #1 Best Seller with THEIR LOST DAUGHTERS and THE FOURTH FRIEND Over 1 million books sold! "I was born in Kent but spent most of my working life in London and Surrey. I was an
apprentice florist to Constance Spry Ltd, a prestigious Mayfair shop that throughout
the sixties and seventies teemed with both royalty and ‘real’ celebrities. What an
eye-opener for a working-class kid from the Garden of England! I swore then, probably
whilst I was scrubbing the floor or making the tea, that I would have a shop of my own
one day. It took until the early eighties, but I did it. Sadly the recession wiped us out,
and I embarked on a series of weird and wonderful jobs; the last one being a
bookshop manager. Surrounded by books all day, getting to order whatever you
liked, and being paid for it! Oh bliss! And now I live in a village in the Lincolnshire Fens with my partner, Jacqueline, and
our four Springer spaniels. I had been writing mysteries for years but never had the
time to take it seriously. Now I write full time, and as my partner is a highly
decorated retired police officer; I find I have an in-house consultant on hand to
make sure that the police and judicial procedure is correct. She also makes very
good tea! I have set my crime thrillers here in the misty fens because I sincerely
love the remoteness and airy beauty of the marshlands. This area is steeped in
superstitions and lends itself so well to murder!
