Single- K.L Slater- Psychological thriller.

Darcy has two sons and a past. She is very much guided by her former husbands family after
he died. When Kane the youngest child has a severe asthma attack one day a doctor comes
to her rescue. The beginning of the book takes us to someone sounding like they are
struggling with their mental health, having dressed totally in the wrong clothes and then
finding themselves in hospital. We later find out who this is , why and what happened.
Darcy and George start dating, something she hasn’t told her inlaws as even four years
after Joel died they think it would be far too soon to begin seeing someone. They help
Darcy look after her boys when she works but are beginning to take over her life. Both
her and Goerge have someone in their past they wish they could get rid of.  K.L Slater
knows magic. Magic that gets you into the plot quickly and characters you take to (or
not in some cases!) . This is a clever premise and that wondering who the guilty parties
were, having thought of different characters along the way and there are lots of twists
and turns on the journey. The ending and unveil for me didn’t quite have that wow/
OMG factor which I have had with other books by this author. Might be me. That
said it was an enjoyable read and kept me within it pages.

Buried Sins by Louise Mullins -crime/thriller
Cerys has returned to her former home. Her father died a few months ago and this is the
first time she has been in his house for twenty years. She has returned with her husband
and two teenage boys to clear out the house before it is renovated. We know she has
some terrible memories of when she was a child that ultimately led her to leave as soon
as she could due to her father. Whilst in the garden she stumbles and uncovers
something that sets of a chain of events not only in real life but in memories of her past.
One find leads to another and Cerys also finds someone who knew her father in more
ways than one. This is one of those books that slowly but surely draws you in. You think
you know where it is going but then takes a different turn. In some ways this is a
complex plot albeit well written with the simplicity of having not too many characters
so it was easier to follow. We are introduced to DI Emma Locke in a small way who
will then appear in her own police procedural series. A well researched novel with
some dark subjects handled in a very sensitive way without too much detail (child
abuse/incest) . We jump back and forth in time as Cerys remembers her past and
again this is done very well and easy to follow, unlike some books doing the same!
An enjoyable, different read.

A forgiven Friend- Sue Featherstone & Susan Pape

A Forgiven Friend: Lies, Loss, and Love, But Always Friendship
Friendship will always come first.

There’s only one way out from rock bottom and that’s up, and Teri Meyer is finally crawling out from the worst time of her life – no thanks to her best friend Lee. But no matter, she’s finally found love – real love with a real man, a successful man, a man who accepts all her flaws. Teri’s never felt like this before, and yet it’s changing her in ways she doesn’t understand.

And there’s only one person who can help, one person who truly understands Teri.

It seems that no matter how hard Lee Harper tries, there’s a battle awaiting her at every turn these days, and she’s tired. And as if she needs the extra stress, Teri continues to create constant and unnecessary drama. But Lee’s the only one who really knows what’s going on under Teri’s hard, convoluted exterior, and that’s why she’s always been there for her.

But the question is: will Teri be there when Lee needs her most?

The brilliant and entertaining final book in the unique FRIENDS trilogy dishes out another dose of rib-tickling mayhem for our favourite thirty-something professional women.

Sue and I are often asked to give talks about our writing and to explain how we write
together – and we love doing it. It means we get to meet lots of keen readers, people
who have read our books, and those who want to buy our books.
We generally talk about our backgrounds – in regional journalism and academia – and
how we started writing together. And, of course, we talk about our characters and story
lines, and read a couple of chapters to give an idea about the style and form of our novels.
We’d both worked in journalism so we’re used to talking to, and interviewing people,
and we both went into university lecturing – Sue at Sheffield Hallam and me at Leeds
Trinity – so we’ve done plenty of addressing a room full of students.
But standing before our first book audience was another thing altogether. Would
anyone turn up? Would they like us? Would they be interested in what we had to
say? And, importantly, would they like our first novel – A Falling Friend – which
took us eight years to write and which we still considered our baby?
Oddly, despite feeling nervous on that first occasion, as soon as we stood up we
relaxed. It dawned on me that we were talking to a group of book lovers about one of
their favourite subjects: books.
And it hadn’t dawned on me until then that there are many people out there who would
love to write a book, but haven’t quite got round to it for one reason or another: they
haven’t the time, the discipline or the imagination…or they simply don’t know what
 to write about.
So in a way, our first audience was a little in awe of us because we’d done something
hat they’d quite like to have done – but hadn’t.
We’ve become more confident as we’ve done more talks – and we bring lots more
into the events now. For instance, Sue and I appeared on the television quiz show,
Pointless, a couple of years ago and we often refer to my fluffing an easy answer,
which raises a laugh (of sympathy, I hope).
And while we always read extracts of our books, we’ve taken this a little further
following our recent appearance at Ilkley Literature Festival. There, with the help
of an ‘actor’ friend, we ‘performed’ a chapter of our latest book, A Forgiven Friend,
 complete with actions and props.
It raised not only laughs, but interest too – so we’re keeping it in our ‘act’ from
 now on.
Most of our talks have been at literary festivals, book clubs, libraries and
diverse organisations and groups.
But one of our favourite audiences is the WI. We were recently guest speakers at
a WI in West Yorkshire purely by chance and luck. They’d been let down at the
last minute by another speaker so we stepped in (we’re not proud). And we had
such a fun night. Not only were the organisers desperately grateful that we’d
ridden to the rescue, they invited to stay for tea and cakes. And you know how
wonderful WI tea and cakes can be.

Destiny- Patricia Dixon- Womens fiction

Oh heck! We begin at Anna’s wedding to Daniel. Those of us who are fortunate enough to
have found true love the second time around (and maybe a difficult past) will truly engage
with Anna. Surrounded by her special people and one last minute arrival, she goes down
the aisle. I’m not 22% in yet and in tears twice. One at the arrival and two at Daniels words
“ Shall we begin our forever” . Blub… and  I’m really not a romantic at heart or a blubber
!I can’t even read what I’ve put without starting blubbing again. Oh Trish you have such
a wonderful say with words that makes this so emotive. Next we have Grace. After the
first rush of love she and Max are now a distance relationship and when he keeps being
distracted and then arriving late her mind goes over and over his “distances”. Is there
something or someone he is keeping from her? Again, anyone who has been in that type
of relationship will understand the frailty of mind that can so easily happen when the brain
takes itself on a one way trip downwards. Trish has captured this perfectly as only
someone who has been there can with the literary genius to convey to the reader exactly
the turmoil and emotions involved. Next is Ruby- this one made my heart sing. Ruby had
a hard time in the past due to her ex Marcus. Now she is happily remarried but Marcus
wants his children despite one disliking him and one not really knowing him other than that
he makes everyone sad and upset when he is around. I won’t spoil anything other than to
say the innocence and honesty of youth is a real gem and so made me smile. Setting
someone free is pure gold and again many of us understand that in one form or another.
Last but not least is Barbara’s story. Oh boy. I blubed again. Memories of a special
someone. When I read that it actually happened (‘Im not giving anything away) I was
in bits. How wonderful and poignant. A wonderful,  beautiful story. Thank you Trish.
This book has taken me through several emotions and left me with a light and hope.
A truly moving read. 10* if I could

Destiny blurb In this collection of short stories we make a return trip to the Loire, catching up with old friends
and finding out what life has had in store for Anna and Daniel, Grace and Max, and Ruby and Rosie. After visiting all of your favourite characters it's time to meet a brand new family in A Christmas
Tale, an extra story written especially for the holiday season. Barbara and Ned are spending the festivities away from their children and rather unruly
grandchildren, relaxing in their wintry countryside home whilst avoiding the hustle and
bustle of Christmas in England. Despite escaping to France, both know they have a special task to perform, keeping a
solemn promise and saying goodbye to loved ones, once and for all. This is a magical tale, recaptures the innocence of childhood Christmases, embracing
the spirit of the season and accepting the precious gift of abiding love.

Author Bio Patricia Dixon was born in Manchester where she still lives with her husband. They have
two grown up children and one grandson.  Ignoring her high school reports and possibly sound advice from teachers, Patricia shunned
the world of academia and instead, stubbornly pursued a career in fashion. Once the sparkle
of London life wore off she returned north and embarked on a new adventure, that of
motherhood.  Now, almost thirty years later she has acquiesced to the wise words of her elders and
turned her hand to writing. Patricia has written a total of eight novels, the latest is due
for release in March 2019.

Lucy Mathers Goes Back To Work by Julie Butterfield Rom Com #Giveaway ***
Lucy and Will have two small children. Lucy has been looking after them since they
were born having given up her position as an account manager in a marketing
company. When Will is suddenly made redundant and she is offered her old position
back it makes sense for them to swap places. Will doing the childcare and Lucy back
at work, just until Will can find a new job which she hopes will only be a matter of
weeks. When she arrives back at work she is greeted with enthusiasm by most of
her colleagues. Grant however has taken her place, her office and her accounts and
treats her like a junior. I enjoyed the premise of this book- a woman going back to
work and then missing her children and a husband who really didn’t know/think
that household things don’t magically do themselves. I did think that the kids were
rather spoilt (2 choices each of cereal for toddlers ? and choosing which veg they
eat? Rod and back come to mind). Sorry I digress. I did enjoy this however at times
I wanted to bang the heads together of the two main characters for what was right
in front of their noses- then again that can be real life- where you can’t see what
is right in front of you as you are so caught up in the bigger picture. I loved Julie’s
other books (Did I mention I won the lottery and Did I mention I was getting
married) which were both 5* from me. This one slightly less but still an
enjoyable read. A tale of balancing real life.

Lucy Mathers Goes Back To Work Lucy Mathers was once the golden girl of Simcock & Bright. Four years later, she’s a stay at
home mum with two adorable children, has swapped her Louboutins for rabbit slippers and
spends her day making crustless sandwiches and colour co-ordinated lunches instead of
signing up high profile clients. When her husband is suddenly made redundant, there is panic in the Mathers’ household.
With a mortgage the size of the national debt and a credit card balance that’s in danger of
toppling, Lucy reluctantly decides she must return to work. So she digs out her old power
suits from the back of the wardrobe and leaves Will to become a house husband. But
sitting in Lucy’s old office is Grant Cassidy, suave, handsome and ruthless and with no
intention of letting Lucy walk back into the number one job. At home, despite his breezy declaration that swapping boardroom battles for toddler
groups would be a doddle, Will’s belief that parental issues could be solved with
forward planning and a spread sheet soon falls by the wayside. With both Will and Lucy struggling to adapt, could their previously happy marriage be
developing some cracks? Purchase Links UK - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lucy-Mathers-Goes-Back-Work-ebook/dp/B07WJJJVW5 US - https://www.amazon.com/Lucy-Mathers-Goes-Back-Work-ebook/dp/B07WJJJVW5 Author Bio – Julie Butterfield belongs to the rather large group of 'always wanted to

Mistress- Stewart Giles- Crime
Oh blimey crikey! Where do I start? Perhaps with a warning…. do not start this book
if you want/need to put it down or be involved in real life. It has that magical
magnetism that keeps you turning for “just one more chapter”... and another… and
another. I devoured this . Miranda is on a spree again only this time she has killed
someone on the force and then off to pastures new. DS Swales has the bit between
his teeth and teams up with a blogger to go after Miranda on the far side of the
pond. One thing leads to another and they are so near yet so far. We get
alternating chapters from Miranda being incarcerated and her side of what happens
on the way across the USA. This is the sequel but could possibly stand alone- then
again why miss out on the first equally brilliant read? (Miranda). I loved Swales
and Lisa. Their determination and tenacity along with a little humorous banter
with each other. I won’t give anything away but very much look forward to
the next installment……

Miranda is on the run from the Dunford Police and has managed to flee the UK. The story continues as we follow Miranda to the USA. With the body count increasing all the time will Miranda ever be caught. This is a gripping page-turner that keeps the adrenaline pumping as Miranda manages to keep just one step ahead of DS Swales. With numerous twists and turns all the way to the absolutely brilliant ending this is a must read for anyone who loves psychological thrillers. What readers are saying about Miranda: ‘Stewart Giles has hit it out of the park with Miranda. Stewart Giles – Author Bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live.
In 2014 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later.
3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series - the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series.
The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well.
I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the shelves in 2018 with amazing results.  I therefore made the decision to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet Taylor series which was published in July 2018.
After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The Enigma was born. It brings together the broody, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor.
Miranda is something totally different. A stand-alone psychological thriller, it is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before.

The Liar- Jane Adams- Crime
Ex DI John Tyler has met Martha- a distant cousin who has come to the area to trace
her family. when she is found stabbed in her  B&B room it is rather odd to say the
least. The previous night John saw the large dog who has been terrorizing the village
and whom most thought was imagination. Are the two connected? Detective Mike
Croft who knew John from his time on the force is leading the case. It appears that
Martha isn’t her real name and John is doing his best to sort out family history which
may help the case along as no one knows where Martha fit in to the family. I
enjoyed this. It’s that much more than a crime book. Because of John and his family
link it is much more personal which comes across well and makes it a mystery
within a crime if that makes sense. I liked John and Mike and Maria -Mike’s wife.
Again it gives that personal touch and interest without too much filler which
some books appear to have just for the sake of it. A highly enjoyable read that
is more than just a crime book

Jane Adams Author Bio Why do I write? Like most writers, it's a kind of compulsion. The stories are there and I have to try and grab
hold of them and pin them onto the page. Most of the time, I enjoy the process; sometimes
, I'd rather be doing just about anything else, up to and including the ironing - and I hate ironing. I started writing when my youngest child went to school. I was incredibly lucky and my first
novel, The Greenway, was picked up by Macmillan in 1994 and published in 1995. I currently write two series; Naomi Blake and Rina Martin. Rina was a character I'd had
in mind for years before committing her to paper. An elderly, ex thespian who had played
the part of a popular TV detective, she had retired to the seaside and bought a boarding
house for other ex performers. Rina's feisty, no nonsense character is, I suppose, based
on the rather powerful and opinionated ladies I grew up surrounded by - mother, teachers
in the all girls school I attended, aunts and pseudo aunts, all of whom had opinions about
everything and made sure these were unstintingly shared. Naomi Blake, on the other hand, was the brainchild of my late agent, Bob Tanner at
International Scripts. 'You should write a blind detective,' he said ' and she needs a big
, black guidedog, called Napoleon'. I thought it was a daft idea, and told him so. I just couldn't see how to do it. But, like a
lot of seemingly daft ideas, this one wormed its was into my brain and I realised he was
right. It could work and so, the Naomi Blake series came into being. I have always written in other genres too, short stories in the SF, Fantasy and Gothic
Horror genre, and am working on longer projects when time allows. I also teach Creative
Writing and have had the great priviligde of being a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at three
different universities. Links Twitter: @JaneAdamsAuthor Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jane.adams.16547 Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5158042.Jane_A_Adams

In the Wake- Helen Trevorrow- Psych/Crime/LGBT fiction
Kay Christie is a successful PR business woman running her own business with her partner.
One day at an event at Excel a body is found and Kay is certain she knows who it is. The PR
contract is failing and accounts for 70% of the business so Kay wants to do her best to retrieve
it and/or get new business whilst doing her best to push attention away from the crime.
This is a very different read as there are several issues covered at once. The PR business,
Kay relationships, the murder , her own issues, and more so quite a heavy load. A read
where the main character has her own demons and some fairly explicit sexual scenes
(lesbian). This is a debut novel and very well written. Once I got through the first
twenty five percent or so the rest sped by and I was happily turning the pages.
A crime read with a difference. A murder , a missing nurse and much much more.
A writer to watch in the future.

Blurb:When a body is found floating in London's Royal Albert Dock, successful public relations expert Kay Christie is sent to quiet the media, but things get complicated when it emerges that she knew the victim.
As events spiral out of control, Kay discovers that those close to her may be harbouring another secret - the story of a missing girl. Can Kay discover the truth before her life unravels and she risks losing everything?
In the Wake questions whether we can ever truly leave our pasts behind and explores the lengths that we will go to protect the people that we love.

Helen Trevorrow is a graduate of the 2016 Faber Academy creative writing programme. She studied at Leeds University and has worked in marketing and public relations in London. She is a specialist food and drink PR. Helen’s debut novel IN THE WAKE is a feminist crime thriller about family, unrealised trauma and alcoholism.
