One Last Summer by Victoria Connelly -Womens fiction
Lisa and Audrey have been invited by their long time friend Harrie to spend a summer
holiday at a converted priory she has treated them to. They met 27 years ago and have
not met up for the last six but have kept in touch. Harrie has a secret, one she wants
to tell them but not until she has to as it will change the whole equilibrium. They have a
housekeeper and there is a restorer on the property, a chap who Harrie is finding herself
drawn to. They spend their days catching up and reliving the past , enjoying their beautiful
surroundings.Lisa is into her yoga and tempts the gardener into trying it for his injured back.
Audrey can’t stop working and disappears home for a few days and gets more than the
work she anticipated. Harrie invites her daughter over to stay wit the group and this tips
the balance. I liked Harrie. She was calm and in control in a very difficult situation.
She thought of others over herself. The others had their strengths and weaknesses
as we all do and found the best in each other. This is a poignant  and evocative
emotional read which is beautifully written. The pages almost disappeared
between my fingers as I got so immersed in the story, I was almost at the end
before I knew it. One of those reads to take you to another place.
One to smile at, one to shed a tear. A truly wonderful read.

They have the whole summer ahead of them. Is it enough to rekindle the friendship they once shared?

Harriet Greenleaf dreams of spending the summer in a beautiful ancient priory on the Somerset coast with her two best friends—but her dream is bittersweet. On the one hand, it’s a chance to reconnect three lives that have drifted apart; on the other, she has a devastating secret to share that will change everything between them forever.

First to arrive is Audrey—the workaholic who’s heading for a heart attack unless she slows down and makes time for herself. Then Lisa, the happy-go-lucky flirt who’s always struggled to commit to anyone—or anything. Ever the optimist, can Harriet remind them of the joy in their lives and the importance of celebrating good friendship before it’s gone?

Through the highs and lows of a long, glorious summer, these three women will rediscover what it means to be there for each other—before they face the hardest of goodbyes.

Tilly- Patricia Dixon- Women’s fiction

Tilly has arrived in France. She is staying for the requisite two weeks before her wedding
to Luke, an event she is not looking forward to. She realises that he is not the love of her
life but that to keep everyone happy and with so many arrangements and friends and
family travelling over, its best to go along with it and maybe, just maybe things will
change. We learn of her extended family, the friends around the village and the
nightmare of a mother in law to be. When she literally bumps into someone she
met a while ago and at the time felt a connection to, her resolve is truly tested.
She wants to make the most of the time she has whilst still being honest with Joe.
She can’t quite bring herself to tell him that she is getting married in a few days
time but steels herself to do so as it is the only fair thing to do. She hasn’t done
anything wrong but will Joe see it that way and can Tilly go through with the
marriage if only for the sake of everyone but herself? Ooh! Be still my beating
heart. I so felt for Tilly and understood Joe and his position in all of this. Of
how arrangements catch everyone up without always thinking of the end
result. This is a beautifully described book both for scenery, characters and
of course the plot line. I’m sure many women will recognise the wedding
plans -sweeping feeling and how being caught in a web, however much
you struggle, you just get more tangled. Kadima- forward- something
maybe we all should do a little more instead of looking over our shoulders
all the time. A wonderful uplifting read- perfect for the summer.

Oh, Henry by Morgen Bailey-Cozy animal mystery *Giveaway *
Henri is a dog- a Jack Russell who lives in a lab. He has developed the ability to talk as
a side effect of a medication he was given. He has learnt English from watching TV.
Gwynne looks after him and he is almost never on his own. He is walked within the
grounds but longs to go to the outside world in order to learn more.. Oh and to eat
alligator steak. One night the lab is broken into and Henri fools the burglars into
thinking his voice is CGI and gets some information from them. When he is stolen,
Henri has to use his wherewithal in order for things to get back to normal.
I enjoyed this and feel that other dog lovers will too. Non dog people might not
“get” Henri and the things he says but it certainly made me smile and I could
picture his escapades well. The dognappers not being the brightest crew made
me think of some of the old spoof type films. I could see this being the
perfect read for grandparents to read to their grandchildren- a little adventure,
humour on most pages and a larger than life character (think Scooby Do).
An enjoyable read.

Book Description:

Set in Northamptonshire, England... Henry, a talking Jack Russell, is part of a small team researching a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. He is the target of several dognappers but can he use his wit or guile to outwit them and, with the help of forty-year-old laboratory assistant Gwynne Davies, find the proof needed to convict the criminals. Thus begins a series of adventures for the unlikely pair. There have been amateur sleuths, there have been talking animals – Henry is both. This is Family Guy's Brian meets Poirot meets My Fair Lady.

Tagline: Henry, a nineteen-month-old Jack Russell, has been given the ability to talk and now they can't shut him up! Family Guy's Brian with just as much attitude but better sleuthing skills.

USP: There have been amateur sleuths, there have been talking animals – Henry is both.

‘Oh, Henry’ may look like a young adult or children's novel but the main human character is a woman in her early forties so a more general appeal. 'For the young in all of us'.

Victory For The East End Angels by Rosie Hendry
Winnie, Frankie and Bella are back. Its 1944 and they have just gone through the blitz.
They are not only worried for their own safety but that of loved ones away at war. All
three work at Station 75 as ambulance women working 24 hour shifts transporting
casualties to hospital and very often digging them out from the rubble of a raid.
This is the fourth book in the series and whilst it could be read alone it would
make more sense having read the others first and why miss out on three other
cracking reads?. Frankie is getting married, Bella has an unexpected new beau
and Winnie finds that she is pregnant- not something she was planning quite yet.
I love this series. It’s a wonderful easy read with great characters and I learn
something along the way each time. A  simple way to learn about history in a
very digestible way. The writing is such that you get to know the characters very
quickly (that’s some skill) and quickly develop an empathy for them. I
appreciated the letter from Rosie at the end as it gives the last few characters
closure which was nice to know and that it’s not the end for Station 75.
I very much look forward to the new book. A wonderful entertaining read.

-The Silent Ones- K.L Slater-Psychological thriller
Hold on to your seats- wow! One gripping read. Two ten year old girls are at their
grandparents for the day, being off school for a staff training day. Their mothers are
sisters and work together. When they get a knock at their office door from the police
and tescort then immediately to the police station about a possible assault, both
mothers being understandably worried about their daughters. It transpires that the
girls had wandered off from their grandparents and visited an old lady. The next
thing anyone knows is that the police have been called as the old lady has been badly
assaulted and injured. The girls are not saying a word to anyone not even each other
as if they have taken a vow of silence. Their mothers know they can be scamps but a
serious assault.? Ooh!! This is one of those books that makes you want to read faster
and faster. The tension between the pages is almost palpable and brilliantly written
. I liked Juliet, and felt for her predicament, not only in the current situation but how
the family had always been against her three to one. Chloe came across as having
something to hide and having a temper, something Juliet had seen with Chloe’s
Daughter Brianna. The twist? Argh!! I didn’t see that coming until it hit me square
between the eyes. This is one stunningly written book- put it down if you can-
you might just be sitting up to finish it. I love books like this that are gripping,
entertaining, and keep the grey matter functioning- albeit not having worked it
out on this one (and I read a lot). It made me cringe, it made me smile, it made
me cry. There is hope after disaster, it’s just that small matter of finding your
inner self, that one made of steely determination and a big heart that gets
you there in the end. Love this doesn’t cover it.

The Escape Room- Megan Goldin-Psychological Thriller
OMG! A tense thrilling read. Sara has applied for many jobs since graduating and
has a nightmare of an interview for what would have been a dream job. On her
way out she literally  bumps into someone who could change her fortunes.
Stanhope and sons pride themselves on being the best of the best. They have the
best staff, they pay the best salaries and bonuses and the staff work all hours to
earn this. When some of them are called into an urgent meeting this is nothing
new. They all have places they should be that evening- one is missing his holiday
flight, the work comes first. They discover that the meeting is an escape room
scenario so think that in an hour or so having solved the clues they will be free to
go. On the elevator ride up it stops. Welcome to the escape room. Alternating
chapters give us Sara’s story- of how she got the job and her time at Stanhope
and sons. The very first chapter gives us a security guard, Miguel having called
911. He should be the only one in the building but thinks that he has heard
gunshots. What transpires is a two fold story. of Sara and of those in the lift.
I couldn’t help but keep turning the pages, the tension was brilliantly written
and characters that you either like or loathed. Oh what a clever plot-
love it! It didn't dawn on me at all… I won't spoil anything. Brilliant!
