The Dressmaker of Paris- Georgia Kaufmann - Family saga/historical fiction

Sometimes a book comes along that is a real treasure of a read- enchanting.

Something perhaps that bit different, something that grabs you but for the

life of you you don’t quite know why. I'm writing these first couple of

sentences and I'm only 100 pages in (376 total book) and I'm already totally

struck by this. There is something magical about this- perhaps the way it is

written or the main character Rosa who you can't help but like. Already

it's an enchanting story. Rosa is telling her story with the aid of the things

on her dressing table- some things she has had since she was a child and

others collected over the years. We begin pre second world war in the Alps

and the Germans soon arrive. Something happens to cause Rosa to leave

her family and the village she has known all of her 16 years and so begins

her adventures- although at the time it was survival and the beginning of

her dressmaking career that saw her through. A marriage, several countries

and loves and losses along the way. I do so hope that this becomes a film,

I’ll be first in the queue (with my box of tissues). Think Maria Vontrapp

with Rose from Titanic and you are part way there.

Words can’t express how much I’ve loved this (can you tell?)  ;)

My book of 2021. Wow.
