The Fashion Fix

The Fashion Fix by Lexi Rees- Children's activity book

This is a book aimed at children and is lovely and colourful, aimed at dressing sustainably. We currently live in a world where there are so many things that are disposable- all at a cost to the planet, clothes included and this addresses this to children in a clear accessible way so that they can understand things. Fun Facts like the 80/20 rule (we wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time) and how small changes by all of us can make a big difference.  There are word searches, listing benefits of recycling and other activities to get the child thinking about the world we live in and how to be more responsible. I learnt something despite not being 8-12 ( x a few!!) - that Bamboo is actually rayon most of the time. Bamboo just sounds so much better and natural. It mentions donating to charities (also we have clothes banks in the UK) rather that throwing clothes away in case they end up in landfill.

Aimed at 8-12 year olds in order to take on the facts given such as understanding about child labour and ordering clothes etc I found this interesting myself. its facts put in a digestible way so that the realisation wil come from the child themselves rather than being told. There are some practical things to do also (making a cushion, wrapping presents in cloth etc) which for the older children may lead to even more upcycling. A wonderful, practical educational book.
