Doris Flies Solo by M W Arnold

Doris Flies Solo by M W Arnold- WW2 / Mystery

We are back with the ladies of the Air Transport Auxiliary in the second world war and Doris has been given a special mission- to fly a general around on a tour. Doris, being Doris,  soon smells a rat at how the general and his sidekick behave and tries to relax them a little. They fly to Scotland on a secret mission and Doris has to sign the official secrets act even though she knows nothing of what is in store. Not everything is what it seems and Doris' steely mind and temperament are put to the test.

I adore this series. It's a wonderful easy read as if with old friends and a very well researched one- much is based on real events of the second world war (more is explained at the back of the book).  Whilst part of a series this does happily stand alone, only the past relationships of the ATA ladies are the ongoing thread. There’s drama, a little romance, much mystery and daring and set in a time of simplicity technology wise, with much bravery. Whilst this is fiction it does remind the reader that such things really did take place not so very long ago and how brave people were without complaint. A dream of a read, can't wait for the next in the series. Loved it says it all.

Doris Flies Solo

Air Transport Auxiliary pilot Doris Johnson is sent on a solo trip, escorting a British General on a secret mission to Scotland, vital to the success of D-Day, the forthcoming invasion of Nazi occupied France. Her natural inquisitiveness means her life is in put in great danger and she'll need more than her superb flying skills to survive. Doris has to trust her own instincts, and those of the new friends she makes, so that everyone comes through their adventures in one piece. Not everything is as it seems, sometimes by design, as she faces whatever is thrown at her with a determined smile and the spirit to stand fast for what is good and right. Author Bio – Mick is a hopeless romantic who was born in England and spent fifteen years roaming around the world in the pay of the late HM Queen Elisabeth II in the Royal Air Force, before putting down roots and realising how much he missed the travel. This, he’s replaced somewhat with his writing, including reviewing books and supporting fellow saga and romance authors in promoting their novels. He’s the proud keeper of two Romanian Were-Cats bent on world domination, is mad on the music of the Beach Boys, and enjoys the theatre and humouring his Manchester United-supporting wife.
