Buried Lies-Chris Collett
DI Mariner has a tough day to get through and then takes himself off to the Welsh
hills to try and put his head in order. Meanwhile someone is on the rampage far
away- with a gun. When Tom comes across a runner scared half witless having found
a body his holiday takes a different turn- especially when another murder shortly
afterwards is rather closer to home than is comfortable. He finds a friend whom he
hasn’t seen for over 25 years and makes a new friend in another walker. Chris has
the knack of drawing you in slowly and then grabbing you so that you really don’t
want to let go. I like Tom- he comes across as a solid sort of a chap whom you would
never much want on your side. He has his foibles (don’t we all?) but is a down to
earth tenacious detective and his team are very supportive of him.
I wasn’t sure at the start how this one would pan out as with Tom being away from it
all- it was a very different scenario- I wasn’t at all disappointed. This is number 6 in
the DI Mariner series. It will happily stand alone but reads better in the series.
Another wonderful read from Chris.
