I Know Who You Are- Alice Feeney- Psychological thriller
An actress arrives home expecting to find her husband waiting for her. His shoes, wallet
and phone are there as is his car but no sign of Ben. Aimee reports him missing and so
begins the story. Just a few pages in and there is this tense feel about something you
can’t quite put your finger on. She has had a stalker previously and now finds their
joint account has been emptied- purportedly by her. In Galway in 1987 Ciara has
wandered off form her family and is found by Maggie who looks after her. Caira then
finds herself in a strange place and she wants to go home. She meets her new Dad
and she is kept away from prying eyes for a while. She quite likes it there as in her
original home there was little food and here she is well looked after albeit under
very strict rules. Maggie and her husband run a bookmakers and have some dodgy
friends. Maggie teaches Aimee as she is now called to look after herself if ever
trouble comes calling and one day it does. Oh boy! One to put me on the edge of
my seat. I thought I could see where this was going but it didn’t spoil the tension
at all. I did and then I didn’t (if that makes sense?) Aimee is likeable but rather
naive in many ways which gives her that extra fragility despite what she has shut
away in her past. “Don’t let the past shape the present. Just siphon enough off
to be able to shape the future”.
Oooh! I wasn’t expecting that! A very well written book .
One to put you off kilter in a very good way.
