The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep

The Unlikely  Escape Of Uriah Heep-Literary fiction

“The ultimate book-lover's fantasy, featuring a young scholar with the power to bring literary characters
into the world, for fans of The Magicians, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, and The Invisible Library.”
Oh my! Where do I start? This is a book unlike any other. I know many say that but this
one really is. A book about book characters coming to life and causing havoc. Rob is a
successful lawyer. His younger brother Charlie is an academic and has been reading
tomes since he was very very young. Think Dostoevsky at aged three. Charlie has a
skill if that is the right word that only his family know about- he can bring book
characters to life to the point that they become real people and can interact with
the rest of us however they are not always well behaved. He soon realised he also
had the power to put them back again- however they had to be caught first.
When a character that both he and Rob recognise from their childhood requests
assistance following an appearance from a certain Uriah Heep or two, the brothers
are cast into an adventure. This is brilliantly written and an enchanting read. You
can’t help but smile at the plot and even if you don’t “know” all of the characters
it really doesn’t matter. I am stunned that this is a debut book- wow!  A real
bibliophiles book. An unusual very cleverly thought out read. A fairy tale
for grown ups perhaps?
