No longer Safe- AJ Waines- psychological thriller

Alice has been invited on a fortnight's holiday by her old school friend Karen along with Karen's young daughter Mel. Alice hasn't seen Karen for over six years and looks forward to catching up. Karen however has a plan in mind- we know yet not what other than that Alice is a key part to it. When two more friends arrive the next day Alice is a little taken aback she thought it was just going to be the three of them. When she finds a stash of fifty pound notes hidden she wonders who they belong to and why they are there. Who brings that much cash on holiday and why hide it?

As ever this is written to put the reader on the edge of their seat- something Alison does exceptionally well in all her books that I have read. A tense rather dark read (but not in a bad way) and one that kept me turning the pages ever faster. I liked Alice and although naive in some ways her heart was generally in the right place but at times her head easily turned- a throwback to her past. A book that I didn’t want to put down and that air of tension that makes a thrilling read.
