Death Warning

Death Warning by Andrew Barrett- Crime

Oh wow! Where do I start? Eddie is back as (funnily enough!) is Andrew with his brilliant style of writing. I was smiling early on as Eddie’s filter is selective despite him trying to be “Empath Eddie” and he very often says or does what we would all want to. This time he has been called out to a body found in an alleyway used by druggies and a second one which looks at first to be a suicide, but to Eddie its as if they are somehow linked. DI Benson is being his usual self and he has a new sergeant in Regan who he feels has been foisted on him. Eddie, despite his outward character, is a very caring soul and always wants to do the best for the victims and their families even if sometimes he can’t quite vocalise it.

“ There's a cold wind for company…..” “   The sun tried and failed to evaporate the clouds, and when their reinforcements arrived- the black kind- it inevitably bowed out of the competition and people drew on extra layers” Wow- this is verging on prosaic writing- the skill of a brilliant author that puts the reader right in the heart of things. I almost felt cold!. There are numerous descriptions like this, which to me take the writing to a whole other level- one that earns my  special 5** award (around 10% of the 200+ books I read each year). I can't say how wonderful I found this. There's a brilliant plot line with several smiles along the way and Eddie- I can’t help but love him. One who calls a spade a shovel but would use it with gusto to get you out of a hole if he thought you were worth it. A stunningly brilliant piece of writing, a cracking plot and Eddie. What more could a girl want?
