A Dangerous Fossil

A Dangerous Fossil by John Delaney- Crime

Jemma helps run a museum on the Jurassic coast in England. She frequently walks her dog on the beach early doors and especially after a storm as there might be a fossil or two to collect. One day Dino the dog finds a huge skull. Jemma rallies the troops and a plesiosaur is found and retrieved before the tide can steal it away- however there is some drama around this. The museum is on land that developers want and Jemma hopes the find will secure them the loan for the extension and secure the museum however she feels that she is being watched and has found strange boot marks in her garden. Her boyfriend Dave happens to be a detective but doesn't live with her. The new guy in town is her ex from many years ago, also a fossil hunter. When someone is attacked things take a turn for the worse. Who is behind this and why?

Wow! This is a new author to me and I found myself turning and turning- its a compelling read. I found myself immersed in the drama of the fossil find and of Dino missing- praying he would be found and ok. This is one of those books I could read all day and not really be sure as to why it's so compelling - but it most certainly is. Then the drama begins in earnest  and the pages turn every quicker if possible! It's brilliantly researched and written with a great plot and enough backstory to give the characters depth without distracting from the main plot line- an excellent balance. A wonderfully different, riveting read I thoroughly enjoyed.
