The Pain of Strangers

The Pain of Strangers- Andrew Barrett- Crime

Eddie is back! An elderly man lures some thugs who tried to mug him back to his house. He disposes of two in his cellar through a trap door and goes after the other one and is then found crying at the scene. Eddie has been called to a burglary of an old man and from the shoe print he finds thinks he knows who the perpetrator is and goes to get the old man's things back as only Eddie can. Apparently a new MCU is being set up which would leave Eddie doing the “also ran” crimes not the ones where he feels he can make a difference so decides to apply for a position. Add to this his personal life is in meltdown- he suspects his wife of having an affair but dearly loves his daughter, and Roz, his bestie at work looks like she is on the move too.

I can't help but love these books. Andy has a skill and a talent that combines brilliant writing with a well thought out plot and humour into the mix. And then there's Eddie….A chap you would want on your side as he would always defend you as long as he agreed with you. Someone who no doubt says what others think and dare not verbalise their thoughts. The man who has a huge heart and a mouth with its own speedometer. A brilliant read, a stunning read and quite dark in parts. I can't help but love Eddie- A man I wish I knew sometimes!I can't recommend this highly enough- it's a perfect mix of crime, characterisation and humour of various sorts. Brilliant doesn't do this justice.
