A Vintage Vacation

A Vintage Vacation by Maddie Please- Women's fiction

Oh boy! A read that I not only loved but made me think long and hard about my own life in a good way.

Clover Harrington has been in the corporate world all her life and at 61 she is about to be rewarded with the price she has strived to all of these years- a directorship. She is taken in to HR and thinks this is the start of something wonderful. It is but not in the way she first thought. She has been made redundant and suddenly there is this huge work shaped hole in her life that she hasn't really given any thought to. Her partner Jack isn't supportive and only ever thinks about himself. Within hours Clover decides she needs a break and a change. Seeing something Italian gives her an idea and soon she is on her way to Italy to someone she should have seen sooner- her cousin Zoe and she is given the time and support to really think things through about her next steps in life. Then her mother arrives- someone she can only tolerate in very small doses and even then with much (theoretical) eye rolling.

Wow! A book of what life is all about. Yes we all need to work but even during that era we need time to ourselves and when retirement looms sometimes it's hard to step off that treadmill and not be at the behest of others. We have one life- live it. Dance in the rain and sing in the shower! This made me smile with lines such as “someone old enough to be carbon dated” and think of my next steps in life. “ Time is a currency that I needed to spend wisely”. A truly memorable read from a very talented author- please sign me up for the next one now.

A Vintage Vacation Clover Harrington might be sixty-one, but she’s still bossing it in the corporate world and can still run rings around her younger colleagues. And then she is made redundant…. Devastated and now suddenly the wrong side of sixty Clover doesn’t know what to do with her life or her corporate wardrobe! What does she wear if not red lippy and a power suit?! Rather than offer her any support, her partner, Jack announces he's off on a golfing weekend, leaving Clover completely adrift. Desperate to get away from it all, Clover decides to visit her cousin Zoe at her small taverna in the gorgeous Italian Lakes. There she can rest and recuperate and plan the next stage of her life. Until Clover’s eighty-year-old mother, Eleanor decides to turn up for the holiday too! Instead of gentle ambles around the lake, Eleanor seems more interested in late night poker and swigging Prosecco and Clover can’t quite believe her mum is having more fun than she is. But as the saying goes - if you can’t beat em, join em! But is Clover brave enough to live La Dolce Vita? Purchase Link - https://mybook.to/AVintageVacationsocial
