The Third Rule- Andrew Barrett -Crime/CSI

A Great Britain set apart from the Union has its own rules. This is in the “near future”
(but not futuristic) where capital punishment has been reinstated. Three strikes and
you are out- by a bullet through the head. Several stories come together in this tangle
of detective work and journalism. A woman whose son has been excluded from school
through bad behaviour “gets back” at the system and in doing so gets more than she
bargained for. A man whose son has been incarcerated for stabbing a burglar is found
dead. A druggie whose boyfriend is a very talented artist starts selling his work behind
his back. Meanwhile CSI Eddie has had his own tragedy and has hit the bottle. Mick,
his friend and journalist is not much help or much better himself.
This is an interesting book where there are some controversial “rules” in the new Great
Britain. No smoking in public for example. You end up loving Eddie but at the same time
wanting to give him a kick up the rear to sort himself out. This grabs you and will keep
you enthralled as it goes through the different scenarios. A wonderfully clever entertaining
read.
