Our Broken Fairy Tale- Calvin Wade- Romantic comedy/contemporary fiction

When Jay Cassidy was widowed at forty years old, he believed that he would never be happy

again. One morning on the train to work, however, he noticed a teenage girl who intrigued him.

Little did he know that this girl would hold the key to his mental recovery.”

Jay lives with his son having recently lost the love of his life to Covid 19. We are now in

2021 and he is just beginning to surface from having his heart ripped out. On his train journey

to work he speaks to a young woman and later discovers that she is the brother of his son's

friend. Thereby sparks a friendship between a forty something widower and a Bisexual (one

thing she says to Jay early on possibly to shock him) late teenager who treasures a different

perspective on life from her own age group. As with all Calvins books I loved this from early

on. There is such a wonderful warmth of character that you “feel” that Jay and Alice could

be your own friends and the mention of Covid now and again puts a very real perspective

on things without it getting too much in the way. A beautifully written (as ever) wonderful

book that I will remember for a long time. Something special, something different. I think

we could all perhaps do with a Jay in our lives (or an Alice). Loved it.
