Murder in Mind- Faith Martin

Ex- DI Hillary Greene is back in the warmth of the cold case unit. Crime investigation team
to give the correct name. They have been asked to investigate a murder of an elderly
woman who was found in her home eight years before. Her team are all civilians but her
boss is new and most certainly isn’t. Hillary has her own conundrum to deal with- a
marriage proposal which has really thrown her a curve ball. She thought she was happy
with the relationship as it was and even thought it was near the end. Jake, one of her
assistants has his own investigation in mind and nothing to do with the team.  Hillary
was aware of him using her computer in the last book and now has tabs on him from
several angles. Yet again Faith throws us right in to the heart of the story with her
usual panache and warmth of characters. I feel I almost “know” Hillary now and love
Puff the tragic wagon. I really wouldn’t be too surprised if I passed them one day whilst
out walking along the canal side. You get what I mean- when you feel you have been
through a lot with a character and hence “know” them. To me this shows the art of a
good writer. Not only do we know what they look like but how they feel and what
their next move might be. A really enjoyable read.
