Lost Girls- Helen Pryke- Crime

Two young girls have gone missing from near their school,  both captured and  kept

in a cellar by a man who mistreats them and wants them as the sisters he lost many

years beforehand in a house fire. Maggie was an investigative reporter until a

couple of years ago when her nephew was murdered. Four years after the girls go

missing, their siblings come to Maggie asking for her help. After some persuasion,

with her bosses agreement, she takes on the case and so begins the hunt for the

lost girls. I really enjoyed this- it's brilliantly written with wonderful vivid

descriptions of the scenes involved to almost make you believe that you are there.

Mags is a very likable character albeit with her own foibles (haven't we all?) and

a tenacious determined spirit of a successful protagonist character. A  very well

thought out and crafted plot keeps the pages turning and the tension alive.

Jane and Charlotte are also well thought out in that they don;t always get along

and have very different characters to one another rather than being “just” placid

captives.I could easily see this as a T.V drama as it holds the reader captive so

to speak right until the very end. One brilliant read that I couldn't put down.
