She Lies in Wait- Gytha Lodge-Crime/Police procedural
Thirty years ago a group of six teenagers from 14-18 went on a camping trip. One of
them never came home. Present day and remains are found which reopens the case of the
missing girl which made headline news at the time. One of the distant friends of the
group had just joined the police force and is now on the investigation team.
The books runs in two threads of the time of the murder and present day. The group
had a secret stash and this is where the remains have been found. Thirty years later
they are all different people and as adults remember things they didn’t admit to at the
time, however time has a way of making you think you remember something when
you may well have imagined it. This slowly but surely drew me in. It is told from
the viewpoint of the police in a procedural way and done very well. I liked DCI
Jonah Sheens and his new recruit Juliette Hanson. There are a lot of characters to
deal with and they are written and comes across well. A thirty year old murder
and modern day interventions. This kept me within the pages and I didn’t see
how the perpetrator was until the reveal. A highly enjoyable read.

“What a marvel! A corkscrew-twisty, knife-sharp thriller — yet it doubles as a tender ode to loss and longing. Prepare to be haunted.” A.J. Finn, no.1 bestselling author of The Woman in the Window
“This enjoyably chilling suspense tale by Gytha Lodge conveys both the thrills and the dangers of being a teenager on the brink of adult independence… The obvious questions of how she died and at whose hand are properly dealt with. But the fascination of this story is in the character studies of the surviving children, all grown up now and participants in a dark mystery that they all wish had never seen the light of day” New York Times
