Kathy is terrified of her husband. Her abuses her both mentally and physically and she
struggles to do anything right for him. He is an inspector in the police force and used to
be a detective (we don’t know what out him back in uniform). He has told others that
since having a miscarriage Kathy has been seeing a psychiatrist and has been making
things up, so that if she says anything about him beating her no-one believes her.
She has tried calling the police and even neighbours have called them having heard
her screams but of course with his position she is not taken seriously. The only person
that does is her sister. She plots against him as he is really a bully. A powerful bully
that everyone believes rather than his victim. This is a hard hitting story from the
outset. A wife whom others believe is ill. A respected professional looked up to.
A liar and a bully. This novella pulls no punches and makes you think of what some
people have gone or are going through. We take things on face value. “I’m fine”-
really? You know what is likely to happen but still it enthrals and captivates you
to keep reading. I won’t say too much about the plot as it is a novella and I don’t
want to spoil it. A difficult emotive subject handled extremely well.
Short and snappy, well thought out and well described. A book to remember,
a book to read in one sitting.

When Kathy tries to escape, Connor does his best to convince everyone that she is mentally ill. But Anna, Kathy’s identical twin sister, doesn’t believe it.

After a tragic event, Kathy decides enough is enough and elicits Anna’s help to rid herself of Connor for good.

But will Connor simply let Kathy walk away or have the sisters bitten off more than they can chew?
